# Introducing: Modrinth! And a peek at 0.8 asanetargoss, 2023-02-11 ## Hardcore Alchemy is on Modrinth I am pleased to announce that the Hardcore Alchemy modpack is now available on Modrinth. Modrinth is a Curseforge competitor. It's a place where players can publish mods and modpacks for other players to download. At this time, the version of the Hardcore Alchemy modpack available on Modrinth is the same as the MultiMC version, version 0.7.3. Hardcore Alchemy's presence on Modrinth is currently experimental, to see if it's the right platform for me. I can't guarantee the modpack will be updated there. However, it is highly likely that the upcoming Hardcore Alchemy modpack version 0.8 will be on Modrinth. There also are no plans to discontinue the MultiMC version of the modpack. It will remain the first priority for future updates. ## Why Modrinth? The primary reason why the Hardcore Alchemy modpack is on Modrinth right now is that I was able to publish my modpack on the platform with minimal additional effort. A nice programmer had submitted to MultiMC a WIP Modrinth export feature. This WIP export was not usable on its own, but was enough of a proof-of-concept for me to figure out how to produce a working Modrinth manifest file. I also already had an organized list of third-party mod permissions, which allowed for a relatively quick and seamless approval process. The other reason is that Modrinth's platform officially allows browsing and downloading modpacks from a native Linux launcher. Hardcore Alchemy's markdown description looks quite nice in MultiMC's Modrinth pack browser! ATLauncher and Prism also currently can download Modrinth packs. It's worth noting that the Modrinth team does not currently endorse any particular launcher for use with their platform. They simply provide an API that other launchers can use to implement a modpack browser. ## Caveats The Modrinth version of the Hardcore Alchemy modpack is missing a few performance tweaks and bug fixes due to limitations with the Modrinth manifest format. Most modpack hosting sites have this limitation, though, so it's an acceptable compromise for now. ## Hardcore Alchemy 0.8 The upcoming 0.8 modpack release is a work in progress, and focuses mainly on improvements to survival morphing. A new craftable item will be added, the Seal of Form, to allow you to store your knowledge of a morph. Changeling will also be updated with some bug fixes. Last but not least, there is a more ambitious, experimental morphing mechanic in progress. It involves a block which is unofficially called a morphing apparatus (final name subject to change). By using a Seal of Form on the apparatus, you can stay in a morph for much longer without getting permamorphed. The downside is that your activated apparatus is tied to a specific location, so you will have to return to that location to regain your shapeshifting abilities.^ Jump to top
